Is NT thickening re examination meaningful

NT examination has become a routine item in prenatal examination, specifically used to check whether the baby is Down syndrome. NT examination is also a necessary major screening test for prenatal examination. NT refers to the transparent band behind the baby's neck. Because the baby's lymphatic system is not yet sound, a small amount of lymphatic fluid accumulates in the neck and becomes a transparent layer. Use B-ultrasound to measure the thickness of the baby's nuchal translucency, in order to infer whether the baby has congenital abnormalities. Some babies with thickened NT may have chromosomal abnormalities. So is NT thickening re examination still meaningful?

Usually, the thicker the NT, the worse, and it is more normal to be below 2.5 millimeters. However, after examination, it was found that NT thickening does not necessarily mean that the baby is a Down syndrome baby. It can only indicate that the baby has a high probability of developing abnormalities in the general population. Therefore, many pregnant women did not find any abnormalities after further examination, so retesting is still meaningful. If NT thickens, expectant mothers should maintain a calm mood, not be too anxious, and cooperate with the doctor's examination.

Pregnant women should complete NT examinations before the 13th week of pregnancy, as during the examination, doctors may change the mother's position or the position of the probe to find a suitable position for accurate measurements. If the baby does not cooperate, the pregnant mother needs to take a walk and let the baby change positions before undergoing the examination. Therefore, in order to prevent undetected cases, pregnant mothers should prepare for NT examination in advance.
