Pregnant women who want to know if they are pregnant after sexual activity need to go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination one or two weeks after their menstrual cycle is delayed. On what day of sexual intercourse can the gestational sac be seen by ultrasound?
After sexual activity, if women want to know if they are pregnant, whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy, they must undergo a B-ultrasound examination. If the ultrasound examination can detect a gestational sac, it proves that the woman is pregnant. If there is no gestational sac, it proves that the woman did not successfully conceive. Usually, pregnancy is counted from the last menstrual period. If the menstrual cycle is normal, the intrauterine gestational sac can be seen after 5 weeks of pregnancy. After 20 days of sexual intercourse, the gestational sac can be seen on ultrasound, but this is only the earliest time because some gestational sacs develop earlier, while others develop later, and even ectopic pregnancy may occur. Therefore, if the ultrasound can locate the position of the gestational sac after 20 days, a diagnosis can basically be made.
However, if no gestational sac is found within 20 days, appropriate attention should be paid and blood HCG should be tested in a timely manner. At the same time, by combining the trend of numerical changes, it can be determined whether the development of the gestational sac is delayed and whether it is due to ectopic pregnancy or other factors.
If the gestational sac cannot be displayed by ultrasound on the 20th day of pregnancy, it is generally recommended to have a follow-up ultrasound 3-5 days later to determine the location of the gestational sac. In this way, pregnant women can safely and healthily pass through early pregnancy.
