What is the normal value for gestational glucose screening

Why do pregnant women need to undergo sugar screening? You must know these knowledge. During pregnancy, 10% of pregnant women are likely to suffer from diabetes during pregnancy. In short, it is the first diabetes discovered after pregnancy. This is a disease caused by abnormal glucose metabolism during pregnancy that is not detected in a timely manner, so it is best for pregnant women to go to the hospital for a glucose screening test.

What is the normal value for gestational glucose screening1

1、 What is a sugar sieve?

"Sugar screen" is the abbreviation of diabetes screening in pregnancy. General doctors at high risk of sugar screen will recommend continuing to do glucose tolerance test to confirm whether there is pregnancy complicated with diabetes. Severe sugar screening can pose a threat to the life safety of both mother and baby.

2、 Inspection method for sugar sieve

The screening method for gestational diabetes is to dissolve 50g of glucose powder in 200ml of water 12 hours before examination, drink it within 5 minutes, start the timing of the first sip, and take blood samples one hour later to check the blood sugar. If the blood sugar value is ≥ 7.8mmol, it is abnormal for glucose screening, and a walking glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is required.

  Normal value of sugar screening:

There is a certain degree of error in screening due to objective factors such as individual differences or technical issues that cannot be avoided. The statistical value of 7.8mmol/L is also obtained by synthesizing a large number of samples, just like setting a passing line for an exam paper, and there is no essential difference between 59 and 61.

If the Tang screening result exceeds 7.8mmol/L, a glucose tolerance test must be conducted. However, for expectant mothers whose values are below but close to 7.8mmol/L, if they are not at ease, they can decide whether it is necessary to continue the glucose tolerance test based on their own situation or after receiving medical advice.

The standard of normal value is 5.1 mmol/L on an empty stomach, 10.3 mmol/L in one hour, 8.6 mmol/L in two hours, and 6.7 mmol/L in three hours. If two or more of them reach or exceed the normal value, they can be diagnosed as gestational diabetes. If only one item is higher than the normal value, they can be diagnosed as abnormal glucose tolerance.

Attention: If you pass the sugar screening test between 24-28 weeks of pregnancy, you do not need to undergo another sugar screening test. After 28 weeks of pregnancy, the expectant mother's internal environment is relatively stable, and the possibility of suffering from pregnancy diabetes is very small. But if the expectant mother always feels hungry, gains weight quickly, or experiences abnormalities such as polyhydramnios or fetal enlargement after a period of time, she should also suspect whether there is a problem with glucose metabolism, and work with a doctor to make a comprehensive judgment based on various factors such as blood pressure, edema, and blood sugar.

Doctors remind that there is no most effective treatment for any illness, so preventing the occurrence of illness is the most fundamental. So how should we prevent it? The first thing is to control your diet. Pregnant women should refuse sweets, eat more coarse grains and cereals, and pay attention to appropriate exercise every day. It is certainly difficult to achieve these, but whether for the health of the baby or one's own health, one must persevere.
