What is the reason for frequent fetal movements

Fetal movement is an important indicator of baby development, and pregnant women can predict the safety of the fetus in the uterus by the number, speed, strength, and other factors of fetal movement. But fetal movements cannot always have the same frequency, so what's the reason for having multiple fetal movements?

What is the reason for frequent fetal movements1

The fetal movement is generally 3-5 times per hour, and the fetal movement is about 30-40 times within 12 hours. Under normal circumstances, there are certain changes in the strength and frequency of fetal movements throughout the day. The frequency is lower in the morning, increases after 6 pm, and is most active between 8-11 pm. This means that the fetus has its own sleep pattern, which is called the fetal biological clock.

The strength and frequency of fetal movements vary greatly among individuals. Some have up to 100 sessions in 12 hours, while others only have 30-40 sessions. But as long as the fetal movement is regular, rhythmic, and the change curve is not large, it indicates that the fetal development is normal.

Of course, frequent fetal movements do not necessarily mean that the fetus is in danger. Pregnant women should learn to observe the activity time of the fetus. In general, the following 5 types of frequent fetal movements are normal:

  1. Before going to bed at night

Babies move the most at night, on the one hand, they are more energetic, and on the other hand, pregnant women usually can calm down and feel the baby's fetal movements at this time, so they will feel that they move too much.

  2. After dinner

After meals, the blood sugar levels in pregnant women increase, and the baby becomes more energetic after eating and drinking, so fetal movements become more frequent than before meals.

  3. When taking a shower

Perhaps because pregnant women feel more relaxed while taking a shower, this emotion is conveyed to the baby, who is more energetic.

  4. When speaking to the stomach

Pregnant women have expressed that when communicating with their babies, the babies will respond and express their feelings through fetal movements.

  5. When listening to music

Stimulated by music, the fetus will become fond of movement, which is also a way to convey emotions.

Pregnant women should not pay too much attention to frequent fetal movements in the above five situations, but if fetal movements are frequent in the following situations, they need to pay attention. In the early stages of hypoxia, the number of fetal movements will increase, and due to hypoxia, the fetus will become restless and agitated. When fetal hypoxia continues to worsen, fetal movement gradually weakens and the frequency decreases, which is a precursor to fetal danger. If appropriate rescue measures are not taken at this time, the fetus may experience disappearance of fetal movement, even disappearance of fetal heart rate, cardiac arrest, and death. In addition, if pregnant women are hit by trauma during pregnancy, it can cause sudden acceleration of fetal movement, leading to severe fetal movement and even causing miscarriage, premature birth, and other situations.
