Almost 17 months old, Candy Bean was exploring in the classroom when suddenly he quickly walked to the plant area and stumbled into the trash can, then walked towards the direction of the air purifier.
Due to his age of only 17 months, the size of the trash can is slightly larger, so he walks with some shaking. It is difficult for him to bring the trash can to the air purifier. After gently placing it down, he nodded and made a "hmm" sound, then immediately walked away and continued to explore other jobs.
Do you know what the baby is doing
Actually, when observing him, I roughly guessed the reason until he finished the entire action and I confirmed my answer.
Because this trash can was originally located in the living area, on the right side of the air purifier, the teacher found that placing it there would affect children's exploration of the walking bridge (due to insufficient space, children are prone to falling), so the teacher placed the trash can in another location.
The behavior of Candy Bean is actually maintaining its sense of order. Due to the teacher changing the position of the trash can, he discovered it and believed that it should be returned to its original position, resulting in the behavior described in the case.
Adult observation is important
The goal of the environment and work we set is to help children normalize their personalities, with a good sense of order, physical coordination, focus, and independence (independence in life, thinking, and personality). These are important factors for children in their growth process, and these qualities will help every child benefit for a lifetime.
We firmly believe that every child is an active learner, and what adults need to do is to create a suitable environment for children and carefully observe and record each child.
In the case of Candy Bean, the teacher did not stop him or ask him why he was walking in the classroom with a trash can. He just observed and analyzed quietly until he stopped his behavior, and the teacher found the reason. Therefore, adult observation and designed environment have profound significance for the growth of children.
