When a baby is born, they cannot control their bowel movements. They always pull and urinate whenever they want. After that, the mother should clean them up in a timely manner. When babies reach a certain age, they can control their bowel movements. At this time, mothers need to provide appropriate bowel training for their babies. So, how to do bowel training?
1、 When does defecation training start
1. Firstly, it is necessary to confirm that the baby is in the so-called bladder preparation stage, which means that a large amount of urine is excreted at once, and the diaper can be kept dry for several hours after urination.
2. In addition, the following signs (usually appearing in children aged 18 months to 2.5 years) also indicate that the child is able to receive training:
Capable of walking and willing to sit down (with the foundation of a toilet);
Being able to pull up and down one's own pants;
Can imitate the actions of parents;
Show interest in controlling urination and defecation, such as following parents into the bathroom, etc;
Expressing gratitude for urinating and defecating in diapers;
Will put things back in their original place (showing that it can teach babies to urinate and defecate to the appropriate place);
Can say no, showing independent consciousness.
Training should not start if the baby is sick; Major life events such as relocation occur. In addition, parents should not force their babies to undergo training under external pressure. If parents feel anxious about their babies not being able to get rid of diapers, this emotion can also affect their babies, sometimes causing dysfunction of the sphincter muscle and constipation, which can hinder the normal progress of training. If the baby does not cooperate, it is necessary to wait for several months before conducting another experiment.
2、 How to train a baby to defecate
Training should start with bowel movements, and the following techniques can be used in conjunction:
1. Place a toilet seat (with a circular hole on the seat and a container placed below) or toilet bowl suitable for individual babies near the children's activity area, tell the baby when to use it, or shake the diaper feces into the toilet bowl in front of the baby, so that the baby understands its purpose and avoids the possibility of feces entering the toilet bowl in the future, causing the baby to feel strange and confused;
2. Let the baby sit on it without taking off their pants for the first few days, and when the baby gets used to it, try pulling off the diaper again;
3. Remind the baby if they have a tendency to defecate based on observed signs, such as strange facial expressions or bowel movements;
4. Do not intentionally let your baby continue wearing wet diapers as a punishment for the baby;
5. Cancel the diaper only when the baby can use the toilet several times a day;
6. When the baby is ready for training, they can wear pants that can be easily pulled down by themselves;
7. Remind your baby to use the restroom before bedtime and after waking up;
8. The training on controlling urination and defecation during sleep can start one year later, or it can be conducted simultaneously.
As babies grow older, they gradually become able to control their bowel movements. At this point, mothers need to train their babies in bowel movements, so that they can defecate at a fixed time and place. Being able to control one's bowel movements is an important sign of a baby's growth.
