Almost every mother has been troubled by her baby's diarrhea. It's autumn and the weather is gradually getting cooler. If the baby doesn't pay attention, their belly will catch a cold, catching inexperienced "new mothers" off guard and feeling heartbroken. When a baby experiences such a situation, timely treatment is actually necessary. So, how to treat baby's autumn diarrhea?
When a baby experiences autumn diarrhea, the following should be done:
1. Medical treatment for severe cases: Children with severe diarrhea or dehydration symptoms should seek timely diagnosis and treatment at a children's hospital. If necessary, hospitalization or intravenous therapy should be administered.
2. Do not take antidiarrheal medication: Like other types of diarrhea, infants and young children with autumn diarrhea should not take adult antidiarrheal medication, which is very dangerous for infants and young children. For example, if autumn diarrhea is caused by rotavirus infection, taking antibiotics not only has no effect, but also disrupts the normal growth of intestinal flora.
3. Adjust diet: As long as there is no severe vomiting, most children do not need to fast. Children with severe vomiting need to fast for 4-6 hours before gradually increasing feeding. Reduce the frequency of breastfeeding appropriately, feed sugar and salt water, and alleviate the burden on the gastrointestinal tract.
4. Prevention of dehydration: It is necessary to increase the amount of drinking water (mainly plain water) for the child according to the principle of small amounts and multiple times. When a child experiences dehydration symptoms due to frequent diarrhea, or has been diagnosed with mild to moderate dehydration, oral rehydration salts are generally given to them. For moderate to severe dehydration or vomiting, intravenous infusion is required. These measures can promptly correct dehydration, electrolyte and acid-base balance disorders.
