For parents, the health of their babies is extremely important. Cold and fever are common illnesses in infants, and the normal body temperature for infants should be between 36 ℃ and 37 ℃. So should a one year old baby take medicine if they have a fever of 39 degrees?
When the baby has a fever and the body temperature is below 38.5 degrees, it is recommended that parents choose the physical cooling method as their child's antipyretic medicine. When the temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees, parents can administer antipyretic medication to their baby, while also providing physical cooling and antipyretic treatment. Take medication every 4-6 hours. Common antipyretic drugs include water, tablets, suppositories, and injections.
General principles for the use of antipyretic drugs in children:
1. If the fever temperature exceeds 38.5 ℃, anal suppositories can be used to reduce the fever. But if the child is already experiencing diarrhea, try to avoid using suppositories to prevent irritation to the intestines.
2. When the body temperature does not exceed 38.5 ℃, take antipyretic medication first; After taking, observe for 40 minutes. If the fever does not subside and the body temperature remains high, consider using anal suppositories to reduce the fever.
3. If there are any of the following symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately: children have convulsions, persistent vomiting, their initial activities are still normal, but suddenly their activities become very poor, and fever can reach 39 ℃ or above within 4 hours or more than 3 days.
If a child has a long-term fever exceeding 39 degrees, they must go to the hospital. Sometimes, more serious illnesses may only be around 38 degrees Celsius. Therefore, when a child has a fever, parents should observe the child's face, mental state, and whether there are any convulsive symptoms.
