Symptoms of physiological diarrhea in infants

Infants and young children have relatively insufficient physical abilities and often encounter various problems, among which eating and excretion problems are the most common, which makes mothers very worried. Especially if the baby has severe diarrhea, it can affect weight gain and normal development, and treatment should be taken seriously. The symptoms of physiological diarrhea in infants mainly include the following.

Symptoms of physiological diarrhea in infants1

  1. Abnormal bowel movements

The normal stool of a baby has certain characteristics, mostly yellow or almost golden yellow, and is relatively soft. And babies with diarrhea may have very thin stool, which is not sticky at all, and even looks like water with a very light color. Severe babies may also have mucus or pus in their stool.

  2. Abnormal frequency

Breastfeeded babies may have three to four or seven to eight bowel movements a day, while formula fed babies have relatively fewer bowel movements, one or two or three to four times a day, with a relatively fixed frequency. Babies with diarrhea may experience a sharp increase in bowel movements, with more than ten times a day. Even if they are not breastfed, they may still excrete stool, and with insufficient stool in their bodies, their stool may appear watery.

  3. Abdominal pain and fever

Babies with rapid onset of physiological diarrhea may also experience symptoms of fever and sustained high temperatures. And the colic in the stomach can also make the baby feel uncomfortable and may cry incessantly. For infants with severe diarrhea, timely diagnosis and treatment should be sought, and attention should be paid to the supplementation of water and inorganic salts, otherwise dehydration may occur.
