Firstly, the mother needs to distinguish between the symptoms of the baby's cold and pneumonia. If a baby has a fever and their body temperature remains above 38 degrees Celsius for two to three days, it is highly likely to be pneumonia. Because using antipyretic patches can reduce fever and lower the temperature of a baby's cold, usually the fever of a baby's cold is below 38 degrees Celsius. The fever caused by pneumonia is persistent, and even with antipyretic patches, it is temporary. After the medication wears off, the fever will return. Another obvious feature is that pneumonia can cause coughing, which can worsen to the point of difficulty breathing. Babies with pneumonia have poor mental state, irritability, and drowsiness.

Secondly, when the baby is sleeping, the mother can closely listen to the baby's spine and back. If the baby has pneumonia and hears a gurgling sound, it is a symptom that a cold does not have. In terms of appetite, children who suddenly stop eating and eat less than those with a cold, especially those with pneumonia, do not eat directly. Symptoms of worsening breathing difficulties may occur while sleeping.
