Childhood hydronephrosis must be detected and treated early. Once it becomes severe, its complications are difficult to improve in the short term and can have a significant impact on children's kidney function. So what causes hydronephrosis in children?
The three main factors leading to pediatric hydronephrosis are urinary reflux, ureteral obstruction, and renal dysfunction:
1. Urinary reflux. Urinary reflux is one of the main causes of hydronephrosis in children. Under normal circumstances, human urine enters the bladder from the kidneys through the ureters, but after reflux, urine will flow back from the bladder to the ureters and even back to the kidneys. Urine from the kidneys can flow into the bladder at any time. At this point, with urine flowing back from the bladder, water in the kidneys will continue to accumulate, leading to hydronephrosis.
2. Ureteral obstruction. Ureteral obstruction is the most likely cause of hydronephrosis in children. When a small segment of the human ureter becomes narrow and blocked, urine in the kidneys will not easily flow into the bladder and stagnate in the human kidneys. However, usually as long as a segment of ureteral stenosis is cut and reconnected, the condition of hydronephrosis can be improved.
3. Poor renal function. The above two reasons are the most common causes of pediatric hydronephrosis, and the occurrence of hydronephrosis is also related to the patient's renal regulatory function. If the regulatory function is not good, urine flowing through the kidney organs will not be able to be discharged cleanly, and some water may accumulate in the kidneys, leading to hydronephrosis over time.
The treatment of pediatric hydronephrosis is not very difficult, but because children have lower immunity and resistance, if not treated in a timely manner, complications will be more severe. When children's kidney organs are affected by hydronephrosis, it may also lead to renal failure. These hazards can seriously affect the healthy growth of children, so once hydronephrosis is found in children, it is necessary to seek medical attention in a timely manner.
