In recent years, it has become increasingly common for children to wear glasses. Many people think that children wear glasses because of myopia, but in fact, many children wear glasses because of astigmatism. Astigmatism is more common in children around the age of 3. If the baby's astigmatism is not high, parents don't have to worry about the impact on their vision. So, how much astigmatism is normal for a three-year-old baby?
1. A baby's astigmatism degree within 100 degrees is considered normal because it has little impact on children's vision and can see clearly without wearing glasses. Therefore, if the degree does not exceed 100 degrees, doctors will recommend not treating it temporarily.
2. If the baby's astigmatism exceeds 100 degrees, it will affect their vision. If it exceeds 200 degrees, they must wear glasses for corrective treatment. The principle of wearing glasses for astigmatism and myopia is the same, which is to improve the patient's vision by wearing glasses. Therefore, wearing glasses for correction will not reduce the degree of astigmatism.
3. Astigmatism in infants and young children belongs to congenital astigmatism, and the degree is relatively stable. It does not increase with age. If the degree is relatively high, laser surgery can be performed after the child grows up. Laser surgery can improve the patient's astigmatism, but it cannot guarantee 100% complete cure.
