A baby's cold usually lasts for about 7-14 days, while coughing can last for several weeks. Many parents get busy and flustered as soon as they notice their baby has a cold. Hurriedly covering oneself with a blanket, feeding the baby antipyretic medicine, or rushing to the hospital for the doctor to administer intravenous fluids, thinking that it can immediately relieve the baby's discomfort. Of course, it is understandable for parents to love their children, but when their children catch a cold, they should pay attention to their methods and not seek medical attention hastily. Improper handling may worsen the baby's condition.

Firstly, if the baby only coughs lightly and has a small amount of mucus, but their mental state is good and they eat, play, and sleep without much difference from usual, they can temporarily observe at home, pay attention to replenishing the appropriate amount of water, and let the baby rest more. If the baby has a fever and the armpit temperature exceeds 38 ℃ or the baby's mood is significantly low due to the fever, it is recommended to seek medical attention in a timely manner to avoid worsening the condition in a short period of time.

Secondly, if the baby has severe nasal congestion while sleeping at night, you can use breast milk to drip 1-2 drops into the nostrils, and then gently pinch the baby's small nose to promote nasal ventilation. If there is still no ventilation, you can place a hot towel on the baby's nose and let the baby's nose breathe through the heat. You can also use a small amount of nasal medication under the advice of a doctor.
