Fever is a very common phenomenon in both babies and adults, which may be caused by internal heat, catching a cold, or the invasion of bacteria in the body, and the immune system is fighting against it. For babies, a mild low-grade fever can also help improve their immunity. What should I do if the baby has a fever approaching 38 degrees?
1. Pay attention to the surface temperature of the body. A baby's body temperature above 37.5 ℃ indicates a fever, while a temperature between 37.5 ℃ and 38 ℃ indicates a low-grade fever. At this point, physical cooling methods can be adopted. Firstly, appropriate clothing should be worn. Wearing too thick or covering with a thick blanket can raise the surface temperature of the baby's body and make it difficult to dissipate heat.
2. Take a warm bath or soak in water. If the baby needs to take a bath on the same day, you can choose warm water to help the baby take a bath, which helps dissipate heat. Soaking the feet in warm water can also help the baby's blood circulation. However, it is important to turn on the warm light in the bathroom and control the indoor temperature to avoid the baby catching a cold again. If there is no warm light, you can wait for the baby's fever to subside before taking a bath.
3. Wipe with alcohol. Proper alcohol wiping can help dissipate heat from the skin, but two points should be noted. Firstly, the alcohol content should not exceed 20%. You can choose to wipe it around your neck under your armpits, but not on your chest. Secondly, babies under two years old should not use alcohol wiping as it can easily absorb alcohol.
