Baby suddenly likes to rub their eyes, shed tears, and have red eyes, be alert to acute conjunctivitis. How to treat conjunctivitis and how to take care of it at home?
1、 What is conjunctivitis
It refers to inflammation of the white part of the eye. It can be divided into three situations:
1. Acute conjunctivitis: redness, swelling, heat and pain in the eyes, discoloration and yellowing of eye droppings, and increased secretion.
2. Chronic conjunctivitis: Similar in symptoms to acute conjunctivitis, but with a longer course of illness, typically ranging from 6 weeks to 3 months.
3. Allergic conjunctivitis: The eyes are very red, and the baby will say that the eyes are itchy and love to shed tears. If you rub it with your hands again, there may be a problem of secondary infection.
2、 Causes of Conjunctivitis
Usually, younger children have weaker resistance and are prone to contracting conjunctivitis due to bacterial infections. Older children tend to have infectious conjunctivitis, especially highly contagious viral eye diseases. Red eye disease is an acute infectious eye inflammation that is more common in spring and summer seasons.
3、 How to treat conjunctivitis
1. Take the baby to the hospital and carefully investigate the cause during the diagnosis and treatment process. Once the cause of the baby's eye disease is known, it should be avoided immediately and the stimulation of allergens should be stopped.
2. Prepare specialized towels. The towels and handkerchiefs used by babies should be separated, and after each use, they should be boiled in hot water for 5-10 minutes.
3. Cold compress on the eyes. Use a cool towel or cold water bag to apply cold compress to the baby's eyes, avoiding hot compress, as hot compress can raise local temperature, dilate blood vessels, increase secretion, and worsen symptoms.
4. Apply eye drops. When applying eye drops to a baby, it is important to first soothe the baby and have them lie on their back with their face up, in order to ensure that the eye drops stay in the conjunctiva for a while. In addition, the gap between the conjunctiva is very small, making it difficult for eye drops to stay. Coupled with the constant blinking of the eyelids, eye drops can only stay for a short time. Therefore, it is necessary to drop eye drops frequently according to the doctor's instructions, and not reduce them without authorization, in order to exert the effect of eye drops. To avoid affecting the baby's ability to see, it is common to apply eye ointment before bedtime.
