What should I do if my baby keeps coughing

Coughing is a very common condition in babies. Especially during seasonal changes, it appears most frequently. Also, due to the baby's weaker immune system, these symptoms of illness are more likely to occur. When coughing occurs, we need to understand the cause before we can prescribe the right medicine. So, what should I do if my baby keeps coughing?

  1. Water vapor therapy. When a baby experiences severe dry cough, they can go to the hospital for mist therapy without taking medication. If it is not so severe but the throat is still very dry, the mother can also do steam therapy at home. But remember, only warm water can be used, as the steam from hot water can easily cause burns.

  2. Drink plenty of water. When coughing, either the throat is too dry or the secretions stick to the inner wall of the throat. In either case, drinking more water can be beneficial to the throat. It can better dilute secretions and promote metabolism.

  3. Maintain ventilation indoors. Especially in summer, it is already winter, and turning on air conditioning due to heat or closing doors and windows due to extreme cold can lead to poor ventilation indoors. It is easy to worsen the baby's condition, so it is best to open windows for ventilation.

  4. Do not take medication casually, seek medical attention promptly if the condition is severe. Some mothers are worried about their baby's health and take medication as soon as they cough, but this is not beneficial for the baby. The baby needs to fight against the bacteria themselves first, and if the condition is very serious, they should seek medical attention in a timely manner.
