Babies are bound to encounter bumps and minor injuries during their growth. Careful parents may also be negligent at times, as babies have unlimited vitality and sometimes accidents can occur if they are not careful, such as spraining their legs during running and jumping. So, what should I do if my baby's leg twists?
After a baby sprains their leg, they should immediately take off their shoes and lift the twisted leg up. If the foot is swollen and unable to take off the shoes due to a sprain, parents should carefully cut open the shoes with scissors before taking them off. The movement should be gentle to avoid secondary injury to the sprained area.
Remove a small amount of ice from the refrigerator and place it in a basin or bucket filled with water. After the ice turns into ice water, soak a towel and apply it to the twisted area for 4-8 minutes. If the sprained area is relatively lower, you can also directly place the sprained area in a container filled with ice for 3-5 minutes. After applying cold compress to the sprained area, immediately tie it tightly with a medical bandage.
After 24 hours, if the swelling or pain disappears, it means that the baby only has a simple sprain and not a fracture. At this point, soaking a towel in hot water and applying a hot compress can help promote blood circulation in the affected area. If there is still severe pain in the sprained area, there is a possibility of fracture and immediate medical attention should be sought.
