What's causing the baby's tears in their eyes

Crying in a baby's eyes may cause damage to the eyes, iris, lacrimal gland, etc., and in severe cases, it may lead to the baby's eyes being unable to see clearly or even see things. It should be taken seriously. What's going on with the baby's teary eyes?

What's causing the baby's tears in their eyes1

There are four reasons why babies shed tears in their eyes:

  1. Congenital lacrimal duct obstruction, commonly known as neonatal dacryocystitis, requires early medical attention to have an ophthalmologist wash the lacrimal duct next to the baby's eye. Treatment should also include eye massage, eye drops, and other methods. If the condition is severe, lacrimal duct unblocking surgery may be considered.

  2. Babies with entropion (inverted eyelashes) of the lower eyelid may also experience tearing. At this time, parents can help their babies use adhesive tape to pull the lower eyelid area every day under the guidance of a doctor to prevent long-term irritation of the black eyeball caused by inverted eyelashes, which can lead to keratitis.

  3. Glaucoma. Babies with glaucoma often involuntarily shed tears in their eyes. If diagnosed with congenital glaucoma at the hospital, it is recommended to undergo surgery as soon as possible to treat the eyes, which may restore the baby's vision. Otherwise, it is highly likely to damage the optic nerve in the fundus, which is of no help in restoring the baby's vision.

  4. Allergic conjunctivitis. If a baby over 1 year old has teary eyes, it is likely due to allergic conjunctivitis and dry eye syndrome. It is necessary to go to the hospital for examination in a timely manner and use eye drops to treat the eye area.
