May is a mega-important month for moms. Not only do we celebrate Mother’s Day, but it also hosts a lesser known but equally as important day: World Maternal Mental Health Day . While it is officially recognized on May 1, it kicks off a month-long celebration to raise awareness on maternal mental health issues to end the stigma and help women get the treatment and support they need.
Everyone’s favorite mom Chrissy Teigen is using it as a moment to bring postpartum depression and anxiety front and center. Teigen teamed up with women’s health facility Allegheny Health Network (AHN) to spearhead the social campaign #MyWishForMoms to open dialogue among women to share their stories and advice with others.

In fact, the majority of moms still feel pressure to hide their depression and anxiety from the public. Last year, more than 500,000 new moms developed PPD, yet only 15 percent of them received treatment, according to the American Psychological Association.
“I wish I had known that postpartum depression can happen to anyone because I didn’t think it could happen to me,” Teigen says. “Here I was, with my perfect little Luna and a supportive husband, yet I was truly struggling.”
Throughout Maternal Mental Health month, the model, author and mom will ask mothers to share what they wish they would have known about PPD using the hashtag #MyWishForMoms .
“My wish for moms is that they know they aren’t alone, and they are supported by the more than 500,000 women who share their experience each year,” Teigen says. “Imagine if we can get as many people talking about postpartum depression and anxiety as those experiencing it, and let them know help is available.”
