The holiday season is here, and to help everyone celebrate, Etsy has released its 2020 Holiday Trend Guide , filled with the top gifting and decor trends for this unprecedented holiday season.
According to the guide, the biggest thing on people’s minds is finding creative ways to celebrate loved ones—near or far. Etsy broke its’ guide into two sections: gifting and decor. Below, the top trends they found for each.
Housewarming Gifts
The guide found that 2020 would be the first time hosting holidays for many, meaning that entertaining essentials have become a go-to gift. According to the findings, there has already been a 49 percent increase in searches for housewarming gifts, including a 74 percent increase in searches for candlestick holders. Other items on the rise are tea towels (up 70 percent in searches) and personalized cutting boards (up 42 percent in searches). Plus, searches for classic family games have also seen a 50 percent increase.
Long-Distance Gifting
Many people are thinking about how to celebrate friends and family they won’t be able to see in person this holiday season. According to the trend guide, Etsy has seen a 15 percent increase in searches for long distance gifts and searches for care packages are up 235 percent. Greeting cards have also seen a 73 percent increase in searches, as have holiday cards (up 23 percent).
Greener Gifting
Going green has been on-trend for years, but this year Etsy has seen a 53 percent bump in searches for eco-friendly gifts and a 70 percent bump in searches for eco friendly gift wrap. Tie-dye and shibori items are also here to stay, and have seen a 50 percent increase in searches.

Interior Home Decor
Many people are opting for simpler pleasures and activities this season, as well as a modern take on decor staples, like candles. Etsy has seen an 86 percent jump in searches for abstract, modern and geometric candles, as well as a 16 percent increase in searches for crochet, knit, or embroidered ornaments* and an 18 percent increase in searches for holiday quilts. Citrus decor is also making a comeback, with a 126 percent spike in searches.
Cozy Outdoors
Many festivities have moved to the outdoors this year—but it’s getting colder out there. Many are looking for ways to transform outdoor areas for winter use. Etsy has seen a 186 percent spike in searches for outdoor blankets, a 197 percent spike in searches for fire pits and a 52 percent spike in searches for outdoor holiday decor.
