This Mom Filmed Herself Mid-Panic Attack to Put the Spotlight on Maternal Mental Health

This is what anxiety looks like.

Never judge a book by it’s cover… Or a mom by how happy she seems on the outside.

A video of a mom completely breaking down during a panic attack is making the rounds on social media for all the right reasons. Sophie Mei Lan willingly filmed herself crying in the middle of a full-blown panic attack while her kids played in the background to show what it’s really like for moms who battle depression and anxiety.

The video is a collaboration between the UK mom and Channel Mum to raise awareness on the many women who suffer from anxiety or mental health issues during pregnancy or the early stages of becoming a mom.

“In my vlog for Channel Mum I filmed myself having an anxiety attack. I use vlogging and blogging as a form of therapy, and it gives me a purpose and reason to have #MentallyIll health so I don’t just feel sorry for myself,” the blogger explains on her Instagram account.

Mei Lan is one of many moms who are hard at work to end the stigma on postpartum depression. And it’s a condition everyone—whether a mother or not—should be aware of.

Even when things look glossy and fine on the surface.”
