Pregnancy and childbirth for women are a very arduous process, and in the short period after childbirth, there may be various adverse symptoms such as vaginal bleeding and uterine involution pain. Some mothers may also find that their vaginal bleeding, similar to that during menstruation, lasts longer, and they may worry about it: how long does it take for menstruation to clear after giving birth?
1. After giving birth, women may experience vaginal bleeding, but this type of bleeding does not belong to menstruation, but rather postpartum lochia. The initial discharge belongs to bloody lochia, which will be completely cleared in about 10 days. If a parturient undergoes cesarean section, the time for bloody lochia to be discharged is slightly longer than vaginal delivery, taking about 15 to 20 days to be completely eliminated.
2. After the bloody lochia is completely eliminated, serous lochia will appear. The discharge time of this lochia is mostly around 10 days. After the discharge of serous lochia, there will still be white lochia. The final white lochia will continue to be expelled for about 10-15 days.
3. It takes about 40 days for the full discharge of lochia after childbirth, which is also the time for women to have postpartum confinement. Women must pay attention to the cleanliness and hygiene of the external genitalia during this stage. They can clean the external genitalia with warm water every day and follow medical advice to use relevant drugs for external genital disinfection. At the same time, they should change sanitary pads and underwear frequently to avoid postpartum infections.
